Ōsaki Kamijima Island is a fantastic destination for cyclists looking for a serene escape in Hiroshima Prefecture. The island offers a network of scenic roads that wind through beautiful coastal landscapes and charming rural villages. Cyclists will appreciate the peaceful rides and the opportunity to explore hidden gems at a leisurely pace. Ferries make getting to the island easy, with regular services from the mainland that bring you right to this cycling paradise. Once there, you’ll enjoy smooth, scenic routes and stunning views of the Seto Inland Sea, making Ōsaki Kamijima a perfect spot for a relaxing and picturesque bike adventure.

Ōsaki Kamijima Island also offered a middle point between the popular Shimanami Kaido and Tobishima Kaido cycling routes

Riding

A loop around the main road of the island is about 30km. This can be extended by heading up some of the smaller roads that stick closer to the coast on the West side of the island. For most of the rest of the loop the main road follows right along the coast

Extra Riding

Kannomineyama Daiichi Observatory

Ozaki-Kamishima Island also offers some beautiful views of the Seto Inland Sea. The Kannomineyama Daiichi Observatory is a bit of a climb with the peak at around 400m above sea level but the view at the top is worth it.

Nagashima Island

For a couple extra kilometers and crossing another bridge with views of the sea. Nagashima Island is a good choice. Nagashima Island doesn’t have a loop around the island but does have about a kilometer of seaside riding.

Staying

View of the Seto Inland Sea from the Seifukan Outdoor bath

With it’s beautiful views over the sea and location right on the coast, Seifukan. In particular Seifukan’s outdoor bath gives spectacular views of the Seto Inland sea. We’ve stayed here several times and it was a great experience each time!

Getting There and away
