Ohenro – 88 Temple Tour

What is Ohenro

The Ohenro Tour is a 88 temple tour around Shikoku. The traditonal way that it was done is walking and may people still walk it today (takes about 6 or 7 weeks) but many drive (takes about 10 days) or even do bus tours.

Some people choose to cycle as well (depending on speed, takes 2 to 3 weeks)

An Ohenro tour is typically slower than a regular tour for two reasons. 1) Some of the temples tend to be at the top of hills which take extra time to climb (some of which can be extremely steep) and 2) temples are only open from 7AM to 5PM which means one can get stuck waiting for a temple to open or arriving just after it closes.
